In honor of Navy Pharmacists Mate 2nd Class William D. Halyburton, Jr., and in conjunction with the City of Wilmington, we invite you to join us on May 20, 2025 at 10:00 A.M., for a special sign dedication ceremony at Halyburton Park, 4099 S. 17th St., Wilmington, NC. Mr Halyburton, a 1943 graduate of New Hanover High School, is a Medal of Honor Recipient for his courageous actions during WWII. Following the dedication, a reception with refreshments, and a presentation on Halyburton’s life by author and historian, retired Navy Captain Wilbur Jones, will be held in the visitor’s center. The event is free and the public is welcome. The mission of the World War II Wilmington Home Front Coalition is to identify, preserve, and promote the rich WWII legacy of Wilmington and Southeastern North Carolina.
