The case for American World War II City designation

It’s a nice idea — declaring Wilmington an official American World War II City to honor its contributions to arguably the defining event of the 20th century.

And, like a lot of good ideas in Washington, it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere.

The notion was cooked up more than a decade ago by Port City native Capt. Wilbur D. Jones Jr., a retired Navy officer and military historian.
