In the September 12, 2011 issue of Sports Illustrated* the story of how Wilbur Jones persuaded members of the John Gunn family to donate his rare sports memorabilia collection during the time he was writing Football! Navy! War!: How Military “Lend- Lease†Players Saved the College Game and Helped Win World War II was featured in the Scorecard section of the magazine (Page 18).
The story, written by Brian Hendrickson, was titled Images of a Forgotten Era: A rare memorabilia collection recalls the glory of military football.
